Japan Match

Scottish Select v Japan

The first encounter between Scotland and Japan was in 1989.

The April 1989 Bulletin announced:

On Thursday 27 July 1989 Scotland is to play Japan at Hurlingham, London; we would very much have liked to host the match in Scotland but the short time the visitors have in Britain means that a trip to Bush would have been impractical.  This is the first ever international tour for the Japanese and this will be their first ever international event.  The Japanese, who have only recently taken up International Rules croquet, are very much an unknown quantity and we will be getting our first chance to study them during the few days preceding the match when they play in a handicap tournament in Southwick, Brighton.  The day after playing Scotland the tourists will have an even tougher challenge against an England team.

Kinross Tournament

Kinross 11+ Tournament

This tournament was introduced at the Kinross Croquet Club in 1999, for handicaps 20 and over, and was repeated in 2000 for handicaps 16 and over, from when it became an annual fixture.  After a gap in 2006 because of too few entries, it has been a handicap event for players of handicap 11 or over.  The form of the competition will depend on the number of entrants.  The usual restriction of handicaps to a maximum of 20 does not apply to this event.

Jersey Match

Scottish Select v Jersey

The first matches against the Channel Islands were in June 1993.  Both Guernsey and Jersey had representatives at the 1992 WCF World Championship, and both planned to be represented in 1993 also.  Neither island had strength in depth so Scotland intended to provide a suitable mix of abilities to provide fair competition on a two-day tour.  Guernsey provided the hospitality on the Saturday, Jersey on the Sunday.

Although matches against Jersey have continued since then, there was no further match against Guernsey, which left the WCF some fifteen or so years later.  Players from Jersey have been involved in the MacRobertson Shield and several other GB representative teams.

MacRobertson Shield

The World Team Championship for the MacRobertson Shield, first played for in 1925, takes place every three or four years between test teams of six players from Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

With effect from 2011, because of a change to WCF Statutes prohibiting teams comprised of players from more than one WCF Member Country from taking part in World Team Championships, the GB Team will be replaced by an England team.
