Welcome to the Scottish Croquet Association

Welcome to the Scottish Croquet Association (SCA). We use this site to bring you all the latest Scottish Croquet news, details of tournaments, and information for Croquet players both established and new.

The SCA is the Scottish Governing Body (SGB) of Croquet, as recognised by sportscotland. The SCA is first and foremost concerned with the interests of Croquet players playing in Scotland, or those who regularly come and play in Scotland.

The SCA is entirely voluntarily run, is completely not-for-profit, and exists to achieve the following objectives by working with Croquet Clubs and individuals:

  1. to encourage, promote, and develop the sport of Croquet in Scotland;
  2. to promote and manage Croquet competitions and to encourage participation and improve performance at all levels;
  3. to ensure it is a fit-for-purpose Governing Body that is recognised by the sports councils, to ensure that Croquet is a recognised sport, and to ensure that Croquet is administered in a way that meets current legislation.

This website contains more information about the SCA and its policies, membership information, and more importantly, information, results, and reports about Croquet events in Scotland.

Middle Bisquers 2022

11-12 June 2022, Balgreen

The Adam Trophy was won by David Houston in a tight contest.

With only six entrants, all-play-all games were three rounds on day 1 then two on day 2.  Use of three lawns avoided double-banking.   Games had a 3 hours time limit for standard 26-point Level Advanced play.  If needed, tie-break resolution was published as: (1) games won 26-n; (2) total hoops for; (3) net hoops.

The expected rain proved to be very occasional light showers, but the high and gusty wind often caused difficulties, even for those with aero-dynamic metal mallet heads.  Despite this, the sun shone on both days.  Jane Morrison called to review progress and, for a while, Kathy Brown watched to pick up some tips.  We had a brief visit from Susan Menzies (Sportscotland partnership manager) and a man from Currie dropped in to enquire about group tuition at Balgreen.

Scottish Golf Croquet Championship 2022

4 June 2022, Meadows

Alan Wilson won the Scottish GC Championship beating George Plant in a very close and tense final, 5-7, 7-6, 7-6. George had looked like the stronger player going into the final having won all of his five cross-block games and then the semi against Brian Durward, playing in his first GC event. Alan had a slower start winning just three in his block, but improving as the day went on, beat Rosemary Saunders Robertson 7-6 in the semi-final and managed to keep focused to ensure victory in the final.

The spectators were happy to enjoy the sunshine while the games continued and were even happier to join Alan in Bennets for a celebratory drink.
