Secretary Trophy 2018
21 July 2018, Meadows
The Secretary Trophy was won this year by George Plant, on a tie-break.
This is a 14-point, one-day completion, played to advanced rules with bisques. The lift hoops were 3 and 5, as per the SCA adoption. This year there were six entrants so an all-play-all format was possible. The range of handicaps was 4-14. The winner was to be determined by:
- The greatest number of wins from five games.
- The greatest number of gross points scored.
- Who beat whom.
A few players were prepared to go through both lift hoops to peg with their first ball, setting a scatter-ball leave, in the hope that giving a contact would not then afford their opponent too much of an advantage. Sometimes this strategy paid off. Most games went to time or close to it, with only 9 of the 30 games achieving peg-outs.
After five rounds, Roger and George were tied with four wins each. George took the trophy by having scored a greater number of gross points overall.
