Middle Bisquers 2019

8-9 June 2019, Knightswood

Six players with a handicap range between 4 and 12 took part in this year's Middle Bisquers in Glasgow. Expecting the worst of weather on the Saturday we were delighted to experience a warm sultry day with only a brief 20 minute shower.  The pleasant weather continued into the Sunday with a bright warm day.  Throughout the weekend the lawns were even paced and the hoops more forgiving than very tight.

Using an all-play-all block results generally followed handicap levels with the exception of Bill Strachan's +19 win over Rosemary Saunders Robertson. Well done Bill!  New Glasgow boy Calum Worsley (handicap 10) playing his first tournament in Scotland managed one win.  We look forward to a fast-improving Calum on the Scottish scene.  Your correspondent won all of his games in time but was most pressed by the higher handicap players (why I ask?) and therefore won this year's event.

Spring Weekend 2019

4-5 May 2019, Meadows

Hamish Duguid presenting the trophy to Roger BinksHeld at Meadows CC, the Spring Weekend attracted eight players prepared to accept colder conditions.  Saturday had some sun and a hint of rain and Sunday was cooler, but dry.  Recent weather and fertiliser had encouraged grass growth to an excessive length for some, and runs near hoops were evident; generally the surface played well, despite noticeable undulations.

Glasgow Open 2019

13-14 April 2019, Knightswood

James Hopgood receiving the trophy from John SurgenorJames Hopgood won the Glasgow Open.  The weather was rather on the cold side.  In fact it was bitter on Sunday.  Eight players braved the weather and handicaps ranged from -2 to 12.

Kevin Wright managed to hold up both James and John to time in both games.  James blamed carrying the baby about on one arm, therefore making one arm stronger than the other, for causing his shooting to be out of balance.  I on the other hand was just too cold on Sunday and could not do anything.  James eventually sorted out his problems and won all his games but with only one TP, against Rosemary.
