28 May 2016, Auchincruive
With a disappointing shortage of entries, this year the battle for the Basil Townsend Quaich was between two clubs: Auchincruive (Kevin Wright) and Glasgow (James Thomson). Held in the beautiful grounds of Auchincruive, the weather was very kind, with no rain, and the sun even shone in the afternoon making it very pleasant for the supporters who had come to cheer on their players.
With both players having a handicap of 18 it was agreed to play one game with no bisques and no time limit. The game, played in an attacking manner, moved on very swiftly and after a couple of hours Kevin had established a significant lead. However with James shooting in very accurately from long distances, he managed to put together a good run of hoops reducing the deficit considerably and put himself back into contention. Kevin eventually managed to get back on the lawn, and after a couple of failed attempts, pegged out, retaining the trophy, albeit for Auchincruive this time! The game lasted just over 2½ hours and the final score was +9.
