Scottish Masters 2017

20-21 May 2017, Meadows

The Masters took place at the Meadows over the weekend of 20-21 May.  The weather was poor on Saturday: damp, cold and even a hailstone shower late in the day.  Sunday was much improved, a lot warmer and plenty of sunshine.  Fourteen players came from far and wide to compete in this event; a team from Surbiton had played at the Meadows on Friday against the home club, all stayed to compete in the Masters.   James Hopgood won the trophy winning all his matches.  John-Paul Moberly won the handicapped horse race very quickly: in fact the race was won on Saturday.   He also had his handicap reduced automatically, now down to 2 - congratulations!

Summer Weekend 2017

1-2 July 2017, Balgreen

After two late withdrawals 14 players met at Balgreen Croquet Club for the SCA Summer Weekend tournament.  Six of the 14 had had their handicaps cut prior to the weekend so there was considerable interest in whether that might affect the outcome.  Manager Alan Wilson had granted late starts to Charles Henderson and John Owen who were both driving down from Aberdeen so only 12 started at 9.30.   Unfortunately nobody took Alan up on his plea for someone else to write the report so most details will be about the games involving him!

Wilkinson Sword 2017

23 July 2017, Knightswood

Kevin Russell of BalgreenThis was the first time this competition has been played at Knightswood, Glasgow and 10 expectant doubles players gathered early on the Sunday morning ready to battle for the wonderful Wilkinson Sword trophy.  Last year's winners Aberdeen and Crathes arrived early to allow Brian Clark to park his car in full view of the lawns (he had a bed on top).
